Clamp meters are
convenient measuring instruments that can measure current simply by clamping a
wire while being energized without cutting a circuit. They are also known as amp
clamps, clamp-on amp meters, or amp probes. Clamp meters have most of the basic
functions of a Digital Multimeter (DMM), but with the added feature of a current
transformer built into the product. Some clamp meters also include advanced
features such as a non-contact voltage detector, single and dual thermocouple
thermometers, and a built-in IR thermometer.
Both Digital and analog
clamp meters are designed to measure AC , DC, or both AC and DC currents.
