Non-Contact Tachometer

Non-Contact Tachometer

Photo and laser tachometers are used to measure the speed of rotation, without physical contact. A piece of reflective material’s fixed to the rotating component. The photo tachometer releases an infrared light beam that’s directed to the reflective target. When the light beam hits the target, it’s reflected back to a light sensor housed within the tachometer. If the component is steadily rotating, the tachometer’ll count the amount of times it gets a reflected signal giving a reading in RPM.
